News from South Australia

A free Leadership Workshop and Marketing Promotion day was held in the Cathedral Hall on June 25th with Mary Carmody as an independent facilitator.  Following on from the Workshop, questionnaires were sent to all branches seeking answers to the following questions:

(a) Local? (b) National?

Twinning – CWL Stirling SA with Jersey CWL – Our Lady East

We have been twinned with this group on the island of Jersey for about a year now and have recently received a couple of short emails and a copy of their Annual repot for 2008.

We communicate with the Chairperson of their group, Jeanette Collins, who as well as having this position has recently become treasurer of “Branch” which I presume is similar to our diocese, their secretary Elizabeth Etienne has just completed 6 years in her job and is going to be secretary of “Branch”.

Elizabeth reported that each year they try to live up to the CWL motto of “Charity, Work and Loyalty” and so detailed their activities under those headings.

Charity – includes cake sales (funds going for young people to attend World Youth Day in Sydney), helping with ‘Lent Lunches’ and holding a bumper Christmas raffle. They raised a considerable amount of money at these events.

Work – is also included in these fund-raising activities and, as well, their members helped with the Church Fete, ran a Christmas stall and did the flowers for a local wedding.

Loyalty – included visiting the sick, attending the World Day of Prayer service, and travelling to the Annual Council meeting of the CWL in Southport.

Their branch was 45 years old last year so members celebrated by going out to dinner, so it appears that their activities are not too dissimilar from ours.
